You’re a language teaching related freelancer, or thinking about going freelance and…
– You’re trying to work out everything you need to run a successful business by yourself, and it’s proving a lot harder than you thought.
– You’re getting (or hope to get) clients through word of mouth, but also aware that this isn’t necessarily going to give you a steady flow of clients, or the right clients.
– You’re not sure what else you could do to attract clients, and are reluctant to spend heaps of time posting on social media without really having any strategy.
– You’re wondering if you need a website, or a YouTube channel, or maybe you should start making videos on TikTok?! Everyone seems to have a different theory about what works.
– You’re not sure what you should be charging, and where the balance is between under-charging and charging so much that you fail to attract clients (hint, it’s probably not actually about your price at all)
– Freelancing feels like an emotional rollercoaster, with feast and famine income cycles, amazing clients, but also nightmare clients, and you really need some support, and to create some balance in your life.
It doesn’t have to be that way…..
Welcome to the Confident Freelancer Roadmap
I’ve been in the English Language Teaching world since 1989, and a freelance business owner since 2008.
Over that time, I’ve met some amazing people, and, unfortunately, time and again, I’ve seen freelancers and business owners underselling what they do, being exploited, working themselves into the ground..
That’s why I’m on a mission to support and help other ELT Freelance professionals and business owners, so you can gain confidence, focus your efforts in the right direction, charge good rates, and generally work less, earn more and thrive!
Here’s how I’ve got your back:
If you’re looking for practical help and support with:
– getting your business set up the right way from the start (or filling in the gaps)
– getting more visible and attracting the right clients more consistently
– working out what to charge, and feeling confident to ask for more
– learning how to use your limited time in the best way to push your business forward
– but you’re not quite ready to fully invest in getting personalized help and guidance……
…….this is the place to start.
I’ve gathered together around 20 hours of video training from my work with freelancers over the last 5 years, and created a road-map for you to follow to get everything in place.
Over 8 self-study modules, you’ll (finally) get to grips with all the nuts and bolts, and create a clear vision and foundation for your freelance business.
Every module comes with a downloadable workbook, to help you keep track of your ideas and insights.
What’s inside the Roadmap?
Module 1
Making freelancing work for you.
Explore what’s currently working for you- and what isn’t- so you are ready to (re)create your business in a way that gets results without working you into the ground.
Module 2
Setting yourself up for success.
Looking at freelancing as a business and how you set up your business structure, your workspace, and the legal stuff.
Module 3
Making a name for yourself.
Clarifying or creating a niche, personal branding, your website and other marketing tips.
Module 4
Growing your audience.
Why you need to grow your audience and some options to consider, from YouTube, to Pinterest to Collaborations
Module 5
Social media and content creation.
An overview of how to use social media to grow and nurture your audience, and help with creating content for different platforms.
Module 6
Pricing and money mindset.
Working out what to charge and overcoming common roadblocks when it comes to charging enough.
Module 7
Systems and productivity
How to work out what you need to prioritise and a range of tips and strategies to manage your time better and avoid overwhelm.
Module 8
Confidence
Help with identifying and overcoming the mindset blocks I see all the time, which can often hold you back even more than the practical considerations of being a freelancer.
I’ve already gotten so much value from the modules I’ve done: my business processes are more efficient, my self-worth as a teacher has transformed, and I’ve even increased my prices without any guilt whatsoever. Overall, I feel much better in myself, which benefits both me and my clients!
Thanks so much for putting the Roadmap together. I think it was a great option for people like me. Fingers crossed I can work with you some time in the future.
All the best from Ireland!

Until now the Roadmap was only available to members of The Collective, an ongoing subscription membership. But from November, this will be available as a stand-alone product.
Get ongoing access to everything in the Roadmap (no deadline by which you must be finished), and work through the modules at your own pace.
You’ll also be invited to join my private client-only community on Facebook, where you can meet other freelancers in similar situations, ask questions, and get support.
FAQs
What stage of business is the Roadmap for?
This is primarily aimed at those looking for help in the early stages of setting up and running a business.
There’s definitely content there that can help you at any stage in business, but it’s more of a thorough foundation than a deep dive.
Ideally you would work more closely with an experienced coach (like me ;)) to dig into the specifics of your business, and help you identify exactly the right niche, create an offer, developing a detailed strategy for marketing and selling.
But if you’re not yet ready to do that, this will give you a really good grounding in all the foundational level stuff you need to know, and get you off to a great start.
How long do I have access to the Roadmap for?
This isn’t a time-limited programme, so you can work through the materials at your own pace.
You’ll get life-time access for a one-off payment.
Do I get any live support with the programme?
This is a self-study course. However, I very much recognise the importance of having support as you go along, and so I will also give you access to my private client-only Facebook group, The Collective.
This is a space where you can crowd source wisdom and get answers to your questions, and we also meet up from time to time online for coffee chats and co-working sessions.
I’m concerned about spending money on things like this when my business isn't making that much...
I totally understand how difficult it can be to invest time and money into something when you’re just starting out.
But if you know you need help, can’t figure it all out by yourself and realise that you’re probably not charging enough, learning and implementing the training and the help provided by the Roadmap will definitely give you a return on investment.
Better marketing = building awareness = more leads and more customers.
Gaining confidence to charge higher prices = earning more money for doing less work.
