Learnt how to effectively market her business to bring in consistent clients
Name: Lucy Tilney
Business: Intensive total immersion English language coaching for individual students in her comfortable Bristol home.
Website: https://bristolhomestaytuition.co.uk/
Problem: Lucy was happy with her offer and her clients got great results, but she was too much of a ‘best kept secret’, and needed to learn how to market herself better.
Result: She’s now bringing in regular clients without having to rely on an agency, which means around an extra £600 in her pocket for each client week booked (and all her clients so far this year have been those she’s found herself).
If somebody’s thinking of doing this course with Rachael Roberts, I would highly recommend it, especially if you are working in the area of English language teaching as a foreign language, because Rachael’s got fantastic knowledge and experience in that area, as well as the business coaching support you’ll get.
Before joining Designed to Flourish
I run an English language coaching business where I host adult students who come and live with me for short, intensive courses. We have lessons in the morning and we have lunch together and we may have an afternoon or evening excursion and then every evening we have a delicious homemade meal together with conversation and correction.
It’s very intensive. But it’s very effective and very rewarding for the student, but also for me…
I began to think that Rachael’s business coaching course was something that could be really useful for me because I had this little microscopic business, but I really needed some kind of focus and support to give me direction and ideas on how to better manage it and mainly really what I really needed to do was to market myself better.
Did you have any hesitations about investing in the programme?
I had a few hesitations at first because it’s quite a big lump of money and one’s always anxious about spending large amounts of money on slightly unknown outcomes. So I thought about it for a while. I had some conversations with Rachael.
I didn’t go for it straight away, but the more I worked with Rachael, the more I could see that perhaps this was something that was going to be really useful. And I think it has been incredibly useful.
The one thing that’s really changed since doing the programme is my awareness of how important it is to focus a lot of my marketing on LinkedIn. Because what I’ve realized, partly through doing the course, is that’s where a lot of my main ideal paying clients are probably to be found. And although a lot of my contacts and networks are with other teachers and the ELT teaching world, what I’ve realized is that what I offer is a real complement to teachers of English as a foreign language, because their students can come to me and get a real boost and return with renewed enthusiasm and excitement to their teacher to continue their onward lessons.
