The Niche Reset:

Is your niche working hard enough for you?

A 90-minute hands-on workshop to help freelance language professionals stand out, communicate their value and attract more of the right clients.

Being good at what you do isn’t always enough to get clients any more.

For years, many freelance language professionals have built successful businesses by being good at what they do, offering a range of services and relying on recommendations and repeat business.

And for a long time, that worked.

But the market is changing. Clients have more options, budgets are tighter, and AI has added a whole new layer of competition. Simply telling people you’re an experienced teacher, trainer or coach who can help them improve their English (or another language) isn’t giving them much reason to choose you over someone else.

Even if you’re exceptionally good at what you do.

To attract more of the right clients, you need to be much clearer about who you most want to work with, what matters to those particular people, and why your experience and approach make you a particularly good choice.

That’s where your niche comes in.

And you may already have one. But there’s often a lot more you could be doing with it.

Niche Reset is an opportunity to take a fresh look at how you’re positioning yourself, identify where your strongest opportunities lie and start communicating your value more effectively.

What we’ll work on

During the workshop, we’ll look at where your strongest opportunities lie and how to make it easier for potential clients to recognise the value of working with you.

We’ll explore:

  • Where to focus your expertise so you’re more likely to attract clients who need and value what you offer.

  • What those particular clients are really looking for, beyond the obvious language skills.

  • How to draw on your background, experience and approach to make your offer more distinctive.

  • How to communicate what you do so the right people can recognise that you’re a good fit for them.

You’ll also have an opportunity to test how you describe your work with another participant and get some immediate feedback on what’s coming across clearly, what catches their attention and what might need further work.

Because sometimes what sounds perfectly clear to you isn’t nearly as obvious to someone on the outside.

Who this is for

Niche Reset is for freelance language teachers, trainers, coaches and consultants who want to attract more of the right clients and make better use of the expertise they’ve built up.

Perhaps you’ve already chosen a niche, but you’re still finding it difficult to stand out or explain why someone should choose you.

Perhaps you’re offering several different services to different audiences, and your marketing isn’t really gaining traction.

Or perhaps you’ve relied on referrals and existing contacts for years, and you’re realising that you need a more deliberate approach to attracting clients.

You don’t need to start again or abandon work you enjoy. You may simply need to be more strategic about what you lead with, who you’re trying to reach and how you communicate your value.

What you’ll leave with

By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a clearer idea of which clients and opportunities you want to focus on, what makes your work particularly valuable to them, and how to communicate that value more effectively.

You’ll have the chance to test your thinking, get feedback and start developing language you can use in your LinkedIn profile, website, conversations with potential clients and other marketing.

You’ll also have a workbook to help you continue refining your positioning afterwards.

You won’t build an entire marketing strategy in 90 minutes. But you can make some important decisions about who you’re trying to attract and why they should choose you. And those decisions can make everything else you do to grow your business considerably more effective.

Could your niche be costing you clients?

If the right people aren’t recognising why they should work with you, they may never get as far as making an enquiry.

And if your marketing is trying to appeal to too many different people, it’s much harder to build the recognition and trust that help turn potential clients into paying clients.

You may have far more expertise than your current positioning suggests.

Let’s make sure the people you most want to work with can see it.

Join me for a practical, small-group workshop where you can give your niche the attention it deserves, get some useful feedback and leave with a clearer idea of what to do next.

What people said after the previous version of this workshop.

This accountability has really helped me focus. I have been working on this on and off for several years, but have never really taken the time to really think about what I can offer, It’s probably still not perfect, but it’s a lot clearer than it was!

Jackie O'Hea

Language coach for French speaking professionals, Your English- Unblocked

I think your session really helped me to focus in on my niche, something which I’ve been trying to do for a while. It was really helpful to see the connection between the niche, the messaging, my ideal client, and my offer.

Deerek Philip-Xu

Crafting story-driven learning experiences that build knowledge retention and engagement., Refreshing Publishing

The breakout rooms were an excellent way of helping me clarify my thoughts. I was better able to picture what I wanted to achieve through articulating it to another person who was not familiar with what I do.

Michelle Hanson

Clinical Communication, OET, and IELTS for Healthcare

I realised that I am further ahead in defining my niche than I thought I was.  It was extremely helpful to focus on this in an intensive session.

Hannah Durrant

English Career Confidence Coach, Anglofeeling

I thought the workshop was great, Rachael. The longer I follow you and hear the messages, knowing that you’re working with so many people and they’re achieving results, the more trust I have in you, your word, and advice.

Working through this has opened new windows inside my head; it has made me find new ways to describe things and helped me weave my way further into the Who, Why and How of my work. It’s like finding out more about my clients as well as about myself, how exciting!

Elborg Nopp

I’ve known for a long time that I need to start getting much clearer on my niche, so this workshop was exactly what I was needing at exactly the right time!

I love the way you conduct sessions becauseyou do it in a very natural way and it’s obvious that you deeply understand the challenges we are all facing. Everything was perfect!

I’m Rachael Roberts, founder of Earn Learn Thrive and creator of Designed to Flourish, my six-month programme for freelance language professionals who want to build sustainable, profitable businesses without burning themselves out.

I’ve spent more than 30 years in the language-teaching world, and

I’ve worked with hundreds of freelance teachers, trainers, coaches and consultants on the business side of what they do.

A lot of that work involves helping experienced people make sense of everything they could do and decide what they actually want to build around. Often the challenge isn’t a lack of expertise, but having so much of it that it becomes difficult to choose what should take centre stage.

That’s the work we’ll begin in The Niche Reset.
